Career Achievement Mentoring

This program provides ongoing assistance to high school seniors and college youth in the process of achieving their educational and career goals.  Such assistance includes providing connections for tax return preparation, annual applications for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and Oregon Student Assistance (OSA), new and existing scholarships, employment search, financial management, employment skills training, and more.

The program was developed out of the need for our high school seniors and college youth to have ongoing assistance with educational and career goals achievement after participating in our youth career development programs as freshman, sophomores, and juniors. Teens that have completed a successful Internship Program often retain their internship-site advisors as mentors, but not always. Sometimes teens need to be matched with another career-relevant mentor who, ideally, will continue to support the youth through their college years. Youth in this program advise, encourage, and support our younger youth, as well as provide excellent examples of the career and educational success possible.

The primary goals of the Career Achievement Mentoring Program are to:

  • Enable teens to have a safe adult in their lives who will encourage and advise them on how to succeed in college and achieve their career goals
  • Connect teens with resources that will empower them to continue to attend college and work in a living-wage occupation
  • Provide teens with a reliable staff person to contact for recommendations on any type of support they need.

Currently, the Career Achievement Mentoring Program is for our Pre-Internship Program and Internship Program graduates until the age of 25. We are in the process of expanding support services to any interested young person in need of our assistance and will charge a fee for services.

Eligibility requirements, fee schedule, and application form are available by emailing programs@stepitupinc.org and asking for the specific program materials you would like to receive.
