Pre-Internship Program

Our summer Pre-internship Program connects incoming high school freshman, rising sophomores, and rising juniors in the Portland area with career, college, and self-exploration activities.

Youth selected for the program conduct online research for career, college and scholarship learning activities, attend field trips to businesses and college campuses, participate in discussion groups with speakers about relevant career issues, and attend financial management training workshops. Participants receive graduation credit for their summer program activities and educational support during the school year through Step It Up, Inc.

Summer activities and opportunities change yearly so students are eager to return for all three years they are eligible to attend. Students who complete the program and the documentation of their summer experiences and activities will obtain graduation credit.

The Pre-Internship Program:   

• Is available to all Portland Metro-area students
• Requires attendance at two community events in June and August   
• Will require a 4-6 hour commitment every week in July & August
• Includes bus passes for July & August for all 20 students accepted into the program
