SIU interns have had many successes. Here is one example from David who was one of the youth responsible for the organization’s creation on May 1, 2003!

At age 6, most kids are thinking about what toy to play with or who their best friend is. David was thinking about designing his own home. In 2004, that interest and determination to succeed, and his experience in AutoCAD, made him an ideal person for a new program: SIU’s Internship Program.

Choosing an internship in Architecture, David was matched with LRS Architects, where he met Rocco his on-site advisor (and who is still his mentor today), learned about 3D modeling, developed his AutoCAD skills, and toured job sites to get real hands-on experience.

David became the first of his family to graduate high school, and after attending Portland Community College part-time for five years and completing his college basics, David is getting his Master of Architecture at Portland State University on a full scholarship he received in 2010.
